Previous members of the Sheffield Bioinformatics Core team:

Matt Parker

Matt joined University of Sheffield Bioinformatics Core in May 2018 to provide support for the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and other university projects in addition to strengthening the clinical bioinformatics services. He was instrumental in delivering over 10,000 SARS-CoV-2 genomes as part of COG-UK.

Dennis Wang

Dennis joined The University of Sheffield in September 2016 as a Lecturer in Genomic Medicine. During his time at Sheffield he acted as the co-Director for the MSc in Genomic Medicine course and Lead PI for Genomics in the NIHR Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre.

Emily Chambers

Emily joined the Bioinformatics Core at The University of Sheffield in September 2017 and supported research for a wide variety of analysis projects across the University. She led the analysis for single-cell RNA-seq and spatial transcriptomics data. Emily is an accredited instructor of The Carpentries and attained FHEA status with AdvanceHE.

Niamh Errington

Niamh joined the team in May 2022 following a PhD with Dennis Wang and Allan Lawrie at the University of Sheffield. She is currently working as a postdoc at Imperial College.

Sharon Hsu

Sharon joined the Bioinformatics Core at The University of Sheffield in February 2021. She worked with the Sheffield COVID-19 Genomics Group to support the delivery of a large-scale and rapid whole-genome virus sequencing project, as a part of the COG-UK study.

Requests for a Bioinformatics support clinic can be made via the Research Software Engineering (RSE) code clinic system. This is monitored by Bioinformatics Core staff, so we will ensure the appropriate expertise (which may involve individuals from multiple teams) will be available to help you

Queries regarding sequencing and library preparation provision at The University of Sheffield should be directed to the Multi-omics facility in SITraN or the Genomics Laboratory in Biosciences.
